My name is Juanita Erin Myers and I’ve been fabricating and welding metal for about 20 years. I work for the movie studios mostly full time and I love the work. There are some amazing and talented people in this industry who have taught me so many things over the years. I appreciate this work is part of a continual learning process because it changes every day, and each person I work with has different ideas and talents to contribute.
Before getting into welding and fabricating, I worked in various offices for CEO’s and CFO’s, managing huge spreadsheets, financials, answering phones, etc. I was good at it, but it was never really me. Even as a child I was seriously drawn to art – devouring jumbo boxes of crayons and later, any medium I could find to explore. That’s where I’ve always felt my inner passion lies.
In 2008, the dream of having my own workshop became a reality. Before then I had nowhere practical to fabricate metalwork of my own. What you see on the website are mostly projects I’ve created since then. Some practical, some for fun, all completely handmade and self-designed.
Metal has become my favorite medium. There’s something about the organic nature of it, with the heating, shaping, hammering and manipulating, even the smell and sounds it makes. To have a vague idea simmer for a project and then figure out how to make it a reality is a process which always inspires me, and fuels me on to the next one.
